WHEATLAND and NEWCASTLE – Wheatland boys basketball hosted Burns on Thursday and posted a conference win by a score of 63-37.

“I felt like we played well against Burns. We shared the ball well and got several guys involved,” said Coach Mick Cochran.

Statistic leaders for the night were Jacob Hyche with 19 points, Tate Nichols with 15 points, Jacob Miller with 10 points, and Kenny Raser with 10 points.

The WHS Bulldogs traveled to Newcastle on Saturday and fell short in overtime at the Dogie Dome in a conference loss by a score of 44-43.

Coach Cochran recapped the game, “Saturday was one of those days for us. We didn’t shoot the ball well and missed some shots at crucial times. It was a game where Newcastle executed a sound game plan in taking Tate (Nichols) away and despite the opportunity, we just couldn’t get over the hump.”

Three Bulldogs, Hyche, Miller, and Nichols, each posted eleven points for the Newcastle game.

Several Bulldogs are in the top ten for the state in the 3A East. Hyche is sixth in rebounds at 6.5 rebounds per game, and fourth in blocked shots, averaging 0.6 blocks per game. Miller is seventh in points per game at 12.1ppg and seventh in free-throw percentage at 70%. Nichols is fourth in scoring at 13.3ppg, second in free-throw percentage at 80%, and ninth in three-point percentage at 34%.
