WHEATLAND – On Friday, May 4th, Wheatland hosted an Eastside Non-Quad Varsity Round-Robin. All of the games were non-conference. Number-three ranked Wheatland and Sheridan played to a draw at 9-9. The Bulldogs fell to number-four ranked Campbell County by a score of 16-0. Then Saturday WHS bounced back and won both of their games. The first ended with the Bulldogs skunking Worland 12-0 and then crushing the number-one ranked Bolts of Thunder Basin, 12-2.
This season is the best on record for the Wheatland team at 16-6-1.
Coach Jodie Fitzwater recapped the weekend, “Wheatland hosted their first ever invitational this past Friday and Saturday with teams they have not yet played this season. The Lady Bulldogs were able to come up with a big win against top-ranked Thunder Basin which ended after the fifth inning, another win against Worland, a tie with top ranked Sheridan, and a loss to Campbell County. The team is playing with confidence both defensively and offensively. They know how to work together as a team, not only when they are in the lead but as well as when they are behind. This team is doing great things on the field, and we are proud to be called their coaches! The team is where we want them to be as we enter into our last week of conference competition. We are aiming to bring home two more conference wins this week which would give us the conference first place seed going into the regional tournament.”
