WHEATLAND and MOORCROFT – Wheatland High School wrestler Waylon Milnes earned his 100th win on the mat on Tuesday. He was recognized at the home event and given a poster for his achievements. Milnes has demonstrated determination, hard work, and grit through his athletic career.
Five wrestling seniors were also recognized as a part of their senior night celebration: Audrey Davis, Wyatt Fitzwater, Waylon Milnes, Gabby Nepgen, and Kaelyn Wessel.
WHS hosted a quad tournament on Tuesday after a snow day on Monday and a late start on Tuesday for Platte County Schools. The four schools that competed were Newcastle, Douglas, Torrington, and Wheatland. On the girls’ side, Wheatland prevailed against Douglas (18-12) and Torrington (12-0) in team duals. For the boys, Wheatland lost their team dual to Douglas (45-42), beat Newcastle (60-18), and lost to Torrington (54-29).

WHS Coach Colt Goff stated, “After a chaotic start to the week with limited practice the Bulldog wrestlers shined in both our home quad and the Dylan Humes Memorial Tournament in Moorcroft this last week, showing great improvements in maintaining position when attacking and defending during matches.”
On Saturday the WHS Bulldogs traveled to Moorcroft for a well-attended tournament.
The Wheatland girls placed 15th out of 27 listed teams, earning 52 total points. Taylor Gudahl earned second place and Sophie Meyer earned third place. Wrestlers Gabrielle Nepgen, Kaelyn Wessel, Corrine Gaby, and Audrey Davis also competed.
The boys team placed 12th out of 29 listed teams. Grady Bohlander won the championship in the 113 lb. weight class. Cooper Meyer placed sixth in the 132 lb. class, Waylon Milnes placed eighth in the 144 lb. class, Kreed Kuntz placed sixth in the 190 lb. class. Wyatt Fitzwater, Steven Reece, Izak Goodro, and Kael Gudahl also competed.
