Broken Wings benefit barrel race raises $4K for Project SAFE

WHEATLAND – On July 20, the Broken Wings benefit barrel race was held at Weiser arena to benefit Project SAFE.
There were 83 competitors in the contest which consisted of 111 entries. The main event was the open class race, however there were many other events including: high stakes, peewee, senior, adult, youth, and novice classes. Over $4,000 in proceeds from the barrel race were donated to Project SAFE, a non-profit organization that helps victims of crime with advocacy and assistance in times of need.
The top six winners in the first division in order of placings were: Dani Buhler, Wendy Hoefer, Carla Weiser, Heidi Tillard, and Amy Reisdorfer, and Karen Turey. Buhler finished with a time of 14.456. 

In the second division the top six finishers were: Heidi Tillard, Kelly Adamson, Judi Kapperman, Cardy Mackey, Dani Buhler, and Sarah Keller. Tillard had a time of 14.958.
The third division was represented by the following top six: Courtney Dyess (15.466), Melanie Martin, Kate Spaur, Nicole Henry, Kaleigh Symonds, and Amy Connelly.
The fourth division included these top six finishers: Therese Farris (16.029), Amy Connelly, Jewel Vreeman, Amy Connelly, Preston Mackey, and Carla Sturgeon. Riders may appear more than once as they rode several horses in different divisions.
According to their website, Project SAFE aims to provide assistance and support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and other crimes through prevention, education and social change.
