CHEYENNE – “Thursday we got punched in the mouth by Sheridan. Their pressure got to us early: they exposed our weaknesses and we couldn’t recover. However, a rejuvenated group showed up Friday against Laramie, we played really well,” stated coach Mick Cochran. “Fatigue in the second half set in for us, but to play that team as tough as we did, we were very pleased. Saturday’s game with Southeast was a game we felt we had to win. We needed some confidence as we get closer to conference play. They tried everything to slow us down, man, 2-3, 3-2, matchup and some full court pressure. We handled it all pretty well. Our team is excited to play this week, but really excited to get some guys back from injury.”
Thursday, the Wheatland varsity boys lost to Sheridan, the number-four-ranked team in 4A, by a score of 67-18. Cayden Neely led the Bulldogs with six points and three boards.
Friday WHS lost to the number-one ranked team in 4A, Laramie, 56-39. Leaders in statistics were Tate Nichols with 20 points and six boards, Jacob Hyche with 11 points and seven boards; and Jacob Miller with six points and six boards.
To finish the weekend the Bulldogs beat Southeast 46-34. Players leading stats were Hyche with 17 points and 11 boards, Miller with 14 points and 2 boards, and Nichols with 13 points and five boards.
