DOUGLAS – Mabel Snook, 95, a resident of Wheatland, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at the Mountain Lodge Assisted Living in Douglas.

Mabel was born on Thursday, May 19, 1927, in Moravia, Iowa the daughter of William and Bessie (Blumer) DuVall. Her childhood was spent on the TY ranch near Chugwater.

Mabel married the love of her life, Delbert Leroy Snook, in Harrisburg, Nebraska on July 28, 1941. To this union three children were born, two sons, Larry and Delbert Lyle, and one daughter, Gayle (Wagner). Mabel had eight grandchildren, Steven, Gary, Stacy, Shawna, Shelly, Kim, Wesley, and Sandy; thirteen great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

She owned her own poultry processing plant for three years in the late 1950s and she worked for Joe Wilcox’s “The Cleaver” for three years in the early 1960s.

She loved first and foremost her family. Then, she loved quilt making, which she made many of, rock hunting, fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time in the mountains, playing Yahtzee! and piecing puzzles together. She made many toys out of wood for children, as well as bird houses and small animal cages crated from wood, leather, and window screening.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Leroy; son, Delbert Lyle; parents, William and Dora Bessie DuVall; brothers, Russell, Leo, and Leonard; and sisters, Mary Young, Bonnie McCashland, and Betty Painter.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at 2 p.m. for friends and family.
