May 15 marks the official start date for election season. Candidates will begin filing for office, that period lasts until May 31. It’s a big year for Platte County with many of the local offices available. Here’s the list of what’s open - each are four-year terms: two seats for county commissioner, county coroner, county attorney, county sheriff, county clerk, county treasurer, county assessor, county clerk of district court, Wheatland mayor, two Wheatland town council positions, Guernsey mayor, two Guernsey town council positions, two Chugwater town council positions and one Chugwater town council position for a two-year term.
In addition to Platte County elections, the state of Wyoming is gearing up for election season as well. The top five state offices - governor, secretary of state, superintendent of public instruction, state auditor and state treasurer – U.S. House and one U.S. Senate seat will file with the Wyoming Secretary of State Elections Division and the and candidates names will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website. Locally, the candidates names will be posted on the county clerk’s website.
