Glen Bennett

Glen Bennett, 70, passed away Feb 19 in his Cheyenne home. Glen was born Jan 16, 1944, to Virgil and Stell (McChesney) Bennett and raised in Wheatland.

Glen enjoyed sports and was an avid basketball and baseball player in his youth. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-66.

Glen married Angie Accardo in 1968. Together they have three sons, Cliff, Matthew and Brandon. They resided in Laramie, where Glen worked for the University Police Department (1968-1972). Glen worked at the Albany County Sheriff’s Department from 1972-1991.

While protecting and serving, Glen held every position from deputy to sheriff, obtained his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Wyoming, and graduated from the FBI National Academy and various other law enforcement accredited schools.

Glen received accommodations from various agencies including the U.S. Secret Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

In the last four years of his time with the sheriff’s office, Glen was elected and served as sheriff. Glen then worked for the state of Wyoming, where his employment eventually moved him and his family to Cheyenne in 1994.

Later, Glen was contracted by the U.S. Marshals Service as a court security officer for the Federal Court where he was employed until recently.

Glen was proceeded in death by his parents; younger brother, Leroy Bennett; and sister-in-law, Patty Bennett (Darrell).

Glen is survived by his wife of 45 years, Angie Accardo Bennett of Cheyenne; brother, Darrell Bennett of Sheridan; son, Cliff Bennett (Kit Nelson) and grandchildren, Kelsie (Jake), Cody, Connor and Kaden, all of Wheatland; son, Matthew Bennett of Cheyenne and son, Brandon Bennett (Estelle Holmburg) and grandson, Logan, both of Cheyenne.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Wiederspahn-Randomsky Chapel. A private family service will be held at a later date.
