Lady Dawgs pick up two conference wins

WHEATLAND - The Wheatland Lady Bulldogs fought hard for two home wins, beating conference foes Torrington and Buffalo in two 3-2 matches.

During the Torrington match, Wheatland outscored the Lady Blazers by five points. The Lady Bulldogs won the first set at 25-18, but lost the next two 18-25 and 22-25. Wheatland took it to five sets with a 25-23 victory and clinched their victory with a 15-9 win in the final set.

The Lady Dawgs racked up 105 points to Torrington's 100 during the match. Wheatland averaged 21 points per set.

Though the Buffalo Lady Bison technically outscored the Lady Bulldogs by a lone point, Wheatland pulled off their second straight win with a 3-2 match.

Wheatland pulled off a victory in the first set, edging the Lady Bison 27-25. They lost the next round 25-18 and won the third at 25-17. Buffalo took the game into five sets with a 25-19 victory. The Lady Bulldogs ultimately won it all with a 15-13 nail-biter in the fifth set.

The Lady Bulldogs improved their serving percentage during the match against Buffalo, rising from 85.6 percent to 90.3 from Torrington to Buffalo. Their point average dropped slightly from Thursday's matchup to Saturday from 21 to 20.8.

The Wheatland Lady Bulldogs took on another conference team, the last-place Glenrock Lady Herders on Tuesday in Wheatland.

Wheatland is, as of Sunday, in fifth place in the 3A East with an even 2-2 conference record and 8-11 overall.

The Lady Dawgs varsity and JV squads head to Casper for the Casper Invite on Friday and Saturday.
