Bulldogs rout Eagles in week 2

Posted: Wednesday, Sep 18th, 2013

Quarterback Critter Ruwart looks for an open man during a matchup against Lyman in week 1. The Bulldogs earned their second straight win of the season, looking to add a third as they travel to Wright this Friday to face the Panthers.

DAYTON - The Wheatland Bulldogs are on a roll with a second big win over the Tongue River Eagles, winning 36-6.

Wide receiver Austin Huffer took in the first touchdown after about four minutes of the first quarter, ending a 56-yard drive. Quarterback Critter Ruwart ran in a two-point conversion, bringing the score to 8-0. Tongue River didn't respond until the third quarter.

The Eagles threw an interception, which Ruwart and Taran Whelchel turned into a touchdown. Wide receiver Braden Douglas took in the next touchdown and two-point conversion, earning Wheatland an unanswered 23-point lead going into the second half.

To start the third quarter, a big kickoff return led to a rushing touchdown by Kirby Cagle, the running back's first of the season, making the Wheatland lead 29-0. Tongue River's only score of the game came on the next kickoff, when the Eagles returned the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

With no scoring plays in the fourth quarter, Wheatland finished the game with a 36-6 victory.

Wheatland faces the Wright Panthers on the road this week. The Panthers, currently last in the 2A East (0-1 conference, 0-2 overall) could face an uphill battle against the Bulldogs, who find themselves in a four-way tie for first with a single conference win. Wright lost to Lingle-Fort Laramie in week 1 35-18 and fell to Burns last week 20-6.
