Lady Bulldogs 1-2 in Rawlins

RAWLINS - The Wheatland Lady Bulldogs came in sixth in the Rawlins Invite with one victory in the gold bracket during the invite's final day.

"The girls played some very tough volleyball over the weekend," said Head Coach Brian Filibeck. "The team earned big wins over Cody, Buffalo and Jackson."

Filibeck highlighted good defense from the girls, which translated into a high-powered offense.

"Team serving was exceptional as the team served 96.1 percent for the weekend," he added.

Last Monday, Douglas swept Wheatland in Douglas 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-23). In the gold bracket at Rawlins, the Lady Dawgs lost to No. 5 Star Valley 2-1 (17-21, 22-20, 15-9) and Mountain View 2-0 (21-16, 21-18). They upset No. 3 Jackson, however, beating the Lady Broncs 2-1 (22-20, 15-21, 15-12).

The Lady Dawgs come back home for this week and next week. They first play the Torrington Lady Trailblazers on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by Buffalo on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Glenrock at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The Torrington Lady Blazers were 2-1 last week, beating Worland and sweeping Newcastle this past weekend. Wheatland and Torrington face off twice during the regular season. Last week, Torrington was on top of 3A East with a 2-0 conference record and 5-3 overall.

The Buffalo Lady Bison have not fared well in the season so far, and they are on the lookout for their second season win. They recently lost got swept by Rawlins and Newcastle and lost 2-1 to Worland. They will play against Worland and Douglas before facing the Lady Dawgs.

The Glenrock Lady Herders went 1-3 last week, beating Mountain View but losing to Newcastle, Rawlins and Star Valley. They take on the Douglas Lady Bearcats and rematch against Rawlins before taking on Wheatland. Glenrock was sixth in the 3A East as of Sept. 8.
