GUERNSEY-It began a number of years ago as just a brainstorm idea for a fundraiser for the Old Timers Association. After a few successful runs, the group was no longer viable and the great duck race became a good memory of something to do on a hot summer day.
But several years ago, the Economic Development Group was looking for a way to help fund some of their various events and related expenses and the duck race was revived. That was 2009 and every year since, the event dubbed "Duck Daze" has grown in popularity and participation. That success has led organizers to add even more events and this year was no exception as a beer tasting, dubbed a Beer Fest, was held from 1 to 5 p.m. in Gordon Davis Park.
Well received by those who attended, it was just part of a weekend of events that brought many area residents out into the late summer heat.
The day kicked off with the Duck Dash, a 5K run/walk/waddle along the Lucindy Rollins trail near the North Platte River. For the complete article see the 09-04-2013 issue.
