CASPER – Quick thinking and river know-how from a Wheatland man saved another man’s life this Fourth of July.
Oliver Ashenhurst, the manager of Platte River Raft N’ Reel in Casper, said he’d gone to an area of the North Platte River near some small rapids to check on a co-worker when he saw another man screaming for help.
“At first I thought he was joking,” Ashenhurst said. The way the man’s friends were behaving though, made it clear this was no joke.
Ashenhurst quickly gave his co-worker his three business phones, took off his shirt and ended up ripping his watch in his haste to dive in and save the man.
