WHEATLAND/CHUGWATER – After nine years of serving as pastor in Chugwater and Wheatland and several more serving Wyoming and Colorado, Skip Perry decided it was time.
The pastor of the United Methodist Church is set to retire June 30, the same day as Wheatland Bible Church pastor Denzil Mauk.
“I think I’m ready for retirement, though I’m fairly young,” Perry said. “You’ can’t buy time, and I want more time with my wife.”
Perry is a native of Massachusetts, first preaching in New Bedford. After two years, he came out to Sundance, where he ministered for five years. For the next 20 years, Perry served in churches throughout Wyoming and Colorado, including in Cheyenne, Brighton, Colo. and Colorado Springs before splitting his duties in Wheatland and Chugwater in 2004. He said this was the first time the two churches would be under one pastor.
“Both churches have done really well together and have supported each other,” Perry said.
