William L. "Bill" Smith Sr. died at his home in Laramie, Wednesday May 8, 2013. He was 62. Bill would have recieved his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science on Saturday May 11, 2013. Bill's family will attend the graduation ceremony and his son, William L. Smith, Jr. will wear his cap and gown and accept the degree in honor of his father.
Bill was born Aug. 27, 1950 in Washington, D.C. He met, fell in love with and married Frances E. "Libby" Smith Jan. 31, 1976. Together Bill and Libby had two children, Jennifer and William. He was a fiercely devoted family man who would not allow any "No guests permitted" sign interfere with his extensive exploration of Disney World, his favorite vacation spot. Bill worked in the computer software industry most of his adult life but many don't know that he was also a professional photographer, ran for mayor in Wheatland, wrote a column for the Platte County Record-Times and served as a volunteer firefighter. He greatly enjoyed four-wheeling, classic television shows, “Star Wars,” “Star Trek” and the “Harry Potter” series. In recent years, Bill was known as a superlative trivia game player with a dry wit and an unruly head of hair.
Bill is survived by his brothers Jim Phifer and Tom Smith and sister, Lynda McCall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynwood E. and Eleanor "Ellie" Smith. He also sadly leaves behind his wife, Libby, son, Bill Smith, Jr., daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Jim Woolsey, granddaughter Chelsea and her fiancé Quinn Hart, grandson Emmitt and dear friend Judy R. Johnson. "Sometimes I guess there just aren't enough rocks".
