A funeral service for John J. “Jack” Curless, Sr., 90, will be Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Wheatland with The Rev. Ray Grieb officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Wheatland Cemetery with military honors from Laramie Peak VFW Post No. 3358, American Legion Post No. 10 and the Wyoming Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Jack passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cheyenne.
Jack was born Aug. 7, 1922 the son of James Andrew and Nancy Jane (Willis) Curless in Sidney, Neb.. He attended Sidney High School and graduated in 1942. He was a good athlete and still holds the record for the 100-yard meter dash at Sidney High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served a tour of duty in World War II in the Philippines.
Jack was united in marriage on Dec. 14, 1947 to Emma Jean Unverzagt in Sidney, and they were married for 52 years. They raised their four children in Sidney. Jack worked for the Union Pacific Railroad first in Sidney, then moved to Cheyenne where he was a brakeman. After 32 years of service for the Union Pacific Railroad, he retired to Pine Bluffs, where he quickly became a gardener and tree farmer. Jack was always busy planning and building things and thought of himself as a builder. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and a member of the VFW.
Jack is survived by three children, Timothy Curless of Pine Bluffs; John (Becky) Curless, Jr. of Pine Bluffs, and Callae (Rob) McManus of Wheatland; son-in-law, Louis Santini of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Trist Curless of Los Angeles, Tobi (Ian) Anderson of Denver, Matt (Jessica) Curless of Cheyenne, Rory McManus of Cheyenne, and Daniel Santini of Cheyenne, and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; five sisters; his wife, Emma; his daughter, Cheryl Santini; grandson, Tyler McManus; and great granddaughter, Paige Curless.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Curless, Rory McManus, Trist Curless, Danny Santini, David Unverzagt, Karl Unverzagt and Allen Unverzagt.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all of his many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
