The Wheatland Kiwanians thank everyone who was involved in our recent successful fundraiser “Dancing with the Stars: Platte County Style.” From the sponsors (including Olson Dairy Farm, who we accidentally left off the thank-you ad), to those who voted online and throughout the community, and to those who attended both the rehearsal and the dinner, we can’t thank you enough for the positive response this event has generated.
The majority of our invoices are in, bills have been paid, and we are happy to report a profit of a little over $9,000. As you know these funds will be utilized for scholarships to Platte County students. Our scholarship round for 2013 was already in place; but as a result of this event the club agreed to gift not three (as usual) but six individuals (five graduating seniors and one currently in college) with a $500 scholarship each this year. The remaining funds will be deposited into our scholarship account for next year. We strongly encourage anyone (high school students and/or those returning to or already in college) to apply for these funds. It is also critical to note that students from each of Platte County’s communities are encouraged to apply for these scholarships.
Thank you everyone for supporting this event, which has had more trickledown effect than we could ever have imagined. We invite you to consider joining our ranks. You are always welcome to attend our lunch meeting each Wednesday at noon. For more details call Julie Minear, Kiwanis Secretary, 331-5514.
