Cooney Hills now a national historic landscape

WHEATLAND A Wheatland area ranch has added its own contribution to the wealth of Platte County History.

Cooney Hills Ranch, historic name the Duncan Grant Ranch Rural Historic Landscape, has recently been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Accoring to the 23-page registration form from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Cooney Hills, located roughly 15 miles southwest of Wheatland, the ranch is comprised of about 8,000 acres , including original homesteads and additions. The period of significance in the application is between 1874 and 1955.

Mickey McGuire, who owns the ranch with her husband Fred McGuire, said the designation was exciting.
