Bulldogs perform well in Cheyenne

Wheatland High School's Tyler Pollock had two outstanding events during the Cheyenne South meet last week. Pollock placed first in the high jump and in the long jump, with leaps of 5'11.25" and 20'3.5," respectively.

CHEYENNE The Bulldogs were back as they competed well at Cheyenne South last Thursday.

In the girls 100-meter dash, Nicole Culver came in sixth with a 13.78 time. Muira Bunker was eighth in the 200-meter dash with a 30.02 run; Bunker was sixth in the 400-meter dash with a 1:09.30 time. Jassmine Frias followed close behind with a seventh-place 1:09.81 finish. In the 800-meter run, Kaelyn Kaul earned fourth place at 2:42.61.

In hurdles, Tray Hiatt placed fifth in the 100-meter event with a 17.26 time; Shannon Stockwell was sixth at 18.32.

The 4X100-meter relay event saw the Lady Dawgs cross the finish line fourth and sixth at 53.69 and 55.49, respectively. The fourth-place team was Nikki Horblit, Tray Hiatt, Sydnee Pollock and Kyleen Smith. Those who came in sixth were Samantha Britz, Culver, Bunker and Frias. The girls were third (Pollock, Horblit, Britz and Kaul, 5.03) in the 4X400-meter relay.

In the high jump, Smith was a mere two inches from first place with a 411 leap. Britz was sixth with a 43 attempt. Hiatt netted fourth place in the long jump with a 154 leap. Culver was sixth at 154 and Pollock was seventh at 15 0.25. Nichole Ayers came in eighth in the shot put with a throw of 286.5. Michaela Haroldson earned seventh with a throw of 914.5.

In boys competition, Thain Koger had a strong 200-meter dash performance, placing third at 25.06 and winning the 400-meter dash at 53.4. Jordan Castellanos was sixth at 25.46. In the 3200-meter event, John Fonville crossed the finish line fifth at 12:49.99. Chavo Little was eighth, clocking in at 14:45.98.

In hurdles, Austin Huffer earned fifth at 17.96 in the 100-meter event. Huffer was also fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 46.84 time. In the relay events, Wheatland was fifth in the 4X100; running were Dylan Maike, Brendan Ruwart, Critter Ruwart and Castellanos. The boys came in second at the 4X400-meter relay (Kyle Pollock, Tyler Polock, Koger, Castellanos, 4:02). A second Wheatland team clocked in at eighth (Noah Fernandez, Brandon Zimmerman, Chris Caves, Grady Haefflin, 5:01). In the 800-meter relay, Wheatland came away with a third-place finish (Colton Bertagnolli, Haefflin, Nevada Star and Tel Parmley, 10:14.80).

The boys did exceptionally well during the high jump, with Tyler Pollock netting first at 511.25, Cole Weatherill at 511 for second place, Kyle Pollock at 57.25 for fourth and Derrick Nipper at 55 for a sixth-place tie with Colton Wright from Burns.

Wheatland pole vaulter Nathan Willis netted a fifth-place finish at 114. Tyler Pollock netted his second win of the day, topping the long jump at 203.5. Kyle Pollock in fifth at 1811.5. In the triple jump, Nipper was fourth with a 368.5 attempt.

In the shot put, Michael Jenkins took second in the shot put with a 448.75 throw. Jenkins was sixth in the discus throw at 1159. Taylor Bush finished eighth with a 1120.5 throw.

The Bulldogs will head to Torrington for the final regular meet of the season, the Wiseman Invite. Events are slated to begin at 2 p.m.

Track season wraps up with regionals in Newcastle for 3A East May 10 and 11, and state track takes place in Casper on May 16 and 17.
