Raymond William Witt

A funeral service for Raymond William Witt, 85, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Wheatland with Pastor Andy Gudahl officiating. Interment will be held at the Wheatland Cemetery.

Raymond died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland of natural causes.

Raymond was born August 22, 1927 in Casa, the son of Bert and Lela (Bebee) Witt.

He was raised and educated in Casa and Wheatland. He and his family moved from Casa to Wheatland in 1938. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1945. He worked at Blow Feed and Elevator, Bob Daly Plumbing, Wyoming Highway Department on striping crew and retired in 1980. In his retirement years, he worked odd jobs in Wheatland. He married Irene F. Andersen on Nov. 28, 1954 in Wheatland. He enjoyed his coffee group at Arby’s and A&W, fishing, gardening, storytelling, camping and called square dances at Cottonwood Hall. He was a former member of International Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Witt of Wheatland; children, Eldon (Sandy) Witt of Wheatland, Wayne (Candace) Witt of Ridgecrest, Calif., Keith (Debby) Witt of Wheatland, Leilani (Kenny) Jay of Wheatland, Darrell Witt (Amy Zerr) of Wheatland, and Teresa Read (Brian Spiker) of Cheyenne; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three great-grandchildren on the way and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Hazel Grames, Alberta Johnson, and Keith B. Witt.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Newton, Tom King, Barry Christopherson, Joe Wright, Sonny Douglass, and Travis Witt.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bookout, Rick Poling, Joe Wright, Dwight Bratt, Bob Noyce, Cory Vossler, Eric Poling and Ivan Creel.

A memorial to the Camp Grace-Fletcher Park Youth Foundation, P.O. Box 764, Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland.
