A graveside service for Margaret W. Wilkins, 93, was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Prairie Rest Cemetery in Guernsey.
Margaret died Sunday, April 6, 2013 at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington.
She was born May 7, 1919 in Grand Junction, Colo., the daughter of Earl Alden and Pearl J. (Clark) Darrow. She attended grade school in Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs, Colo. After the family moved to Leadville, Colo. she started the fourth grade, continuing on to graduation from high school in 1937. Her father, who managed a grocery store in Leadville, died the same year, 1937. The following year the family moved to Oregon City, Ore.
She continued her education at Benke Walker College in Portland. While working at the Enterprise Newspaper in Oregon City, later she was employed by the First National Bank.
On July 10, 1944, she married Cecil Wilkins at the Presbyterian Church in Oregon City. In October of that year, she moved to Taft, Calif., where Cecil was stationed at Gardner Field Air Force Base. She worked in the Cadet Time Section until the field closed. Cecil was transferred to La Junta, Colo. and she stayed in Sunrise, working in the CF and I office until November 1945. She returned to Oregon City until Cecil was released from the Air Force. They then returned to Sunrise, where his job on the CW Railroad was continued. Their son, Gerald, was born April 25, 1946 at Wheatland. She was involved with Sunrise Sunday school for several years. Later they moved to their new home in Guernsey in 1962.
Cecil died of a heart attack in 1980. Margaret was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Guernsey, Alvada Chapter of the Eastern Star, Platte County Art Guild, and Western New York Genealogy Society. She enjoyed her hobbies of painting, knitting, crocheting, piano, poetry and story writing, especially for her granddaughters.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce; granddaughters, Angela, Jennifer, and Victoria; sister, Frances Feiss; special friend, Donna Heimsoth of Wheatland; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil; and son, Gerald.
A memorial sent to the United Presbyterian Church of Guernsey, P.O. Box 298, Guernsey, WY 82214 would be appreciated by the family.
