LARAMIE – The Wheatland High School rodeo team came away from their first spring rodeo of the year netting several high placements.
On Saturday, Nevada Starr scored 68 points in the bareback event, giving her 8.5 event points and 115.03 AA points during the first go. In breakaway roping, Tailon Crane was eighth with a 5.28 time and three event points. Teague Crane netted second place with a time of 22.136 and eight event points, giving Crane 137.75 AAs. Chloe Ashenhurst was ninth in the event with a 22.506 time.
In team roping, Teigan Finnerty and Gerrett Murphy took seventh with a 14.31 time. Jhett Hadley took the crown in the tie down event at 12.47; Finnerty followed in ninth with 20.07.
Sunday’s events brought four more titles to the Wheatland team. Finnerty and Hadley both continued stellar performances in the tie down event. This time, Finnerty improved to third place at 10.97 and Hadley was fourth with 13.34.
Ashenhurst and Crane continued their pole bending success. Ashenhurst was second, improving seven places since Saturday’s run and shaving her time down to 21.465. Crane was fourth with a solid time of 21.724.
The next high school rodeo takes place in Rock Springs this week with performances starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday at the Sweetwater Events Complex. Cutting takes places Friday at 6 p.m. at the complex.
