Wheatland welcomes…winter? - County officials survey snowstorm aftermath

WHEATLAND – Though the moisture was certainly welcome in Platte County, it didn’t arrive in the way most might have expected.

Winter storm Walda pushed her way through Wyoming, leaving heavy snow, high winds and wet conditions in her wake.

Platte County emergency management coordinator Jane Carlson said the conditions closed Highway 25, forcing travelers to fill Wheatland’s hotels and motels and to utilize the National Guard armory as a shelter for the first time in about three years.

A bad relay, which may have went down due to the severe weather, left Wheatland in the dark several times during the two-day storm.
