WHEATLAND Even though it's not the biggest hospital and is not equipped to all handle cases that may come to it, the residents of this little community are fortunate to have a good medical facility.

In order to keep it tip-top condition, there needs to be continual upgrades in equipment and to the facility itself. For the majority of funding for these upgrades, the boards can thank the voters of Platte County who have agreed to support the hospital and nursing home through mill levies and recently through a one-cent specific purpose tax for the building of a new long-term care facility. But the tax funds are restricted as to their use. Other needs are met by the fundraising and donations made to the Platte County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home Foundation Board (Keith Geis, Lori Modisett, Kathy Jones, Jim Bohl and Sandra Meier).
