Editorís note: This letter has been edited for length.
Itís been a while since I have written you a letter, but I can hold my tongue no longer. Iíve sat back and said nothing for some time now, but good Lord what are they thinking over there at the city hall?
A $250,000 splash pool, really? Do we not have better things to spend taxpayer money on than this? My Town of Wheatland bill is growing on a monthly basis no matter what I turn off, keep shut off or unplug. Yet they want to spend what on what? I was appalled when I saw Sandy Kontourís piece in the paper about them wanting to spend $180,000 on a state-certified study (not the kitchen just the study) for a public kitchen. I realize Paul Miner in last weekís paper gave that amount to be $18,000, but $18,000 or $180,000 that is crazy!
Come on, Platte County and Wheatland residents: letís tell our elected officials we are not going to stand by while they spend our tax dollars on these wasteful things! Itís time we all who are against this stand up and start yelling, ďOh hell no!Ē
My husband and I are foster parents and are currently housing and loving a 15-year-old boy. The time is coming that we either adopt him or he could end up in a boyís school/home until the age of 18, for reasons not of his own doing. I donít plan on letting that happen, even if we lose our home because of the extra expense of adopting him. So you can see my frustration when there are those putting it all on the line for the love of another while our city council plays with our tax dollars as if they were Monopoly money.
Thank you, Paul Miner, for letting us in on this plan of a splash pool, as in your letter to the editor was the first Iíd ever heard of this. I should have spoken up when Sandy Kontour let us in on the study; itís a waste of our money.
