Donald Lee “Skeet” Wilson

A graveside service for Donald Lee “Skeet” Wilson, 91, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland, with the Rev. Lincoln C. Winter of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Skeet Wilson died Friday, March 15, 2013 at his home in Wheatland of natural causes.

Skeet Wilson was born in Wheatland on June 20, 1921, the son of Horace Cleveland and Nettie Elizabeth (Bovee) Wilson.

He married Berniece Schmidt of Odell, Neb. on Feb. 14, 1950. As a young man he broke horses, did ranch work and sold real estate in Denver. He worked construction, operated a saw mill for a number of years and then went to work for the Town of Wheatland, from which he retired in June of 1986. He and Berniece completed the construction of their home in Wheatland in 1967. He spent his retirement years fixing things at the family cabin in the mountains, gardening, driving his team of horses and enjoying life. He was a very talented man who could fix just about anything.

He is survived by his wife, Berniece; daughter, Cindy (Phil) Kahler; brother, Harold “Shorty” (Pat) Wilson; nieces, Cathy (Dave) Suazo, Mary Beth (Bill) Doane, Kathy (Howard) Hill, and Deb (Dennis) Nippert; nephews, Jim (Tonya) Schmidt and Bob (Debbie) Schmidt; granddaughter, Samantha Twiford; and great grandson, Payton Twiford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace on Oct. 9, 1965 and Nettie on Nov. 4, 1980; brother, James “Buddy” Wilson on Jan. 23, 2002; sister, Florence Montgomery on Feb. 23, 2002; and niece Nancy Schmidt.

Serving as pallbearers will be Duncan Irvine, Steven Shockley, Cobby Vineyard, Jimmy McAuley, Dick McAuley and Eddie McAuley.

A memorial to the Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 216, Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland.
