December 7, 1918 – January 11, 2013

Mary Kiser, 94, of Scottsbluff, Neb., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. At her request, cremation has taken place at Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com.

Mary was born on Dec. 7, 1918 in Windsor, Colo. to Henry and Effie Nagel. She was one of nine siblings. Mary moved with her large family at an early age to Wheatland, where she grew up on the family farm, attending school and helping her dad with chores.

Mary met Donald L. Kiser in Wheatland. She tells the story about Don “riding his horse 20 miles in the middle of winter to come see me.” Mary and Don married on July 4, 1936. Together, they worked on ranches, primarily with George Martin on the 83 Ranch on Bosler Route outside Wheatland.

Mary and Don had three children: Donna and the twins John and Judy. In 1949, they moved their family to Lincoln, Neb., where Don, a gifted carpenter, built their home on Dakota Street while working full-time building houses with a construction company. Mary assisted in several households taking care of the home and family. Her fondest memories lie with Roberta Ferguson, whom she aided and was a constant companion for 17 years.

Mary and Don left Lincoln 25 years later, moving briefly to Newcastle and Wheatland and then to Scottsbluff in 1974. Mary is well remembered for her kindness, patience, wit and her great faith in the Lord. She will be missed by all around her.

Survivors include her son John (Alicia) Kiser; daughter Judy (Larry) Fisher; grandson Michael; granddaughters Shannon (Al), Kirsten (Geoff), Karin, Kim (Eric), Darci (Mark) and Robin (Randy); great grandsons Brandon, Anthony, Shea, Grant, Ford and Matthew; great granddaughters Rachel, Claire, Erin, Aster, Ashley and Nicole; two great-great grandchildren, brother Harold Nagel and sister Edna Ryff.

Her parents, husband Donald, daughter Donna, sisters Minnie Feit, Esther Seibel and Pauline Shepard, brothers Roy, Charles and an infant brother preceded her in death.
