At the Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention & Trade Show, held in Laramie June 1-4, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) honored a number of outstanding agriculture advocates.

Dallas Mount with the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service was awarded the WSGA Outstanding Range Professional Award. This award is given in recognition of the valuable contribution to the livestock industry made by range professionals who exemplify high professional standards coupled with a dedication to building strong working relationships with livestock producers.

Mount was introduced by young rancher, Monte Lerwick, "I find Dallas to be a rare combination of good humor, high intelligence, and good intuition," said Lerwick. "He knows his program inside and out. Dallas came out to our place and spent a day helping us. I highly value his input and advice."

WSGA awarded the Guardian of the Grasslands Award to Joel Bousman of Boulder. This award is given to an individual in a leadership position who has put a great deal of time and effort into preserving Wyoming's agriculture industry.

"It is true statesmen like Commissioner Bousman who make a difference in the agriculture industry," said Senator John Barrasso who helped present the award to Bousman. Sublette County Commissioner Bousman is President of the Wyoming County Commissioners Association.

WSGA also awarded Ryan and Teresa Fieldgrove the 2011 Leopold Conservation Award, an award given annually to a family that has exemplified good stewardship of the land.

"The Fieldgrove family has gone above and beyond as stewards of the resources under their care," said Jim Magagna, WSGA Executive Vice President. "We look forward to featuring this family and all of the hard work they have done at the upcoming Environmental Stewardship Tour June 21st."
