Letter to the Editor: Reducing the size of our government

Posted: Wednesday, Jun 12th, 2013

Dear Editor:

It is time to reduce the size of government; just look at what our government is doing with the compiling of phone records. If this was supposed to be effective in catching terrorists, it has failed miserably as in the Boston bombing. After all, the Russians even gave us the name of the Tamerlan Tsarnaev along with a suggestion that we might want to watch him. Our government missed his phone calls and purchasing habits, but you and me, the government needs that information and more to keep everyone safe. Let’s watch all 316 million people via phone, Internet and drones just to catch what everyone else is doing.

The U.S. Constitution, fourth amendment states “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and affects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue but upon probable cause …”

Are we then to believe that there was probable cause for obtaining records on each of us, our executive, legislative and judicial branches of government all have had a hand in saying “yes?” If you are a veteran, did you fight for freedom? Are you happy being watched? Are you a taxpayer? Do you like having your phone and email records compiled? Are you a voter who elected them into office? Are you happy with the abuse of power and all the regulations and mandates? Can you imagine the future when the IRS has not only your tax info but your health records as well? It is time to reduce government. Let’s start with term limits for every office and abolish the IRS, who has been using its power as a political weapon.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Roni Jaure

Rawlins
