Letter to the Editor: From squabble to big mess

Posted: Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Dear Editor:

It amazes me the amount of wasted taxpayers money that is being spent on the case with the County Attorney that involves the fifth-graders at West Elementary. There are other cases that need to be attended to, but have been delayed due to numerous reasons. According to the parents, this was a case of possible bullying that should have been taken care of by the school principal, but was not. Now it has turned into a misunderstanding, and the County Attorney is charging fifth-grade girls, who have never been in any trouble in their life. It was a "normal" squabble among young girls. I have three, so I know what it was like raising a houseful of girls. The principal should have taken care of this issue at school; instead, she called the police. Now it has turned into a big mess, turning the lives of these children and their parents upside down. If I had children school, I would really rethink sending them to this school district and strongly side with virtual academy or home school my children. I worry about my grandchildren attending school here. Come on, Wheatland, what are we teaching our children with this issue? We as a community need to stand behind these children and their parents. It looks to me as if the County Attorney is bullying these children and their parents! This has gone too far! We need to rethink about who we elect as our next County Attorney!

A very concerned Citizen of Platte County,

Kim Hill
