Eugene Artie Briggs age 66 died Oct. 17 in Guernsey. A memorial Service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday Oct. 21 at Faith Fellowship of Guernsey with Pastor Randy Simmons as the officiate.
Gene was born, Feb. 8, 1947 at Loves Park, Ill. and moved with his family to Oklahoma, and then onto Colorado where he graduated from Adams City High School, in Commerce City Colo.
Gene served in the US Navy as a hard hat diver. Following his service in the military he worked construction as a welder and mechanic. In 1970 he and his family along with his brother Walter went to Alaska. Gene came home to Colorado until the Alaskan pipeline started. He then worked on the pipeline until is completion. Gene then returned to Colorado and worked ton the new airport, and the RTD bus line, and at the Denver Mint. In 1999 Gene, his brother Walter and Walter’s wife Susie came to Guernsey, where they bought the Bunkhouse Motel.
Gene had a love for flying that took him across the country and back.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie and Lillie Briggs and is survived by his wife Olena Briggs, his son James Briggs of Las Vagas Nev., his daughter Leslie Briggs of Guernsey, and his stepdaughter Kristina of the Ukraine. He is also survived by his brother Walter Briggs and his wife Susie of Guernsey, his sister Jaunell Wade of Rochelle, Ill., 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
