A funeral service for Gary Francis Horton, 68, was held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Chugwater with Pastor Keith Hudiburgh officiating.
Gary was a beloved husband, father, son and grandfather. He passed away suddenly Sept. 30, 2013 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.
Gary was born May 9, 1945 in Laramie, the son of Bernard and Betty (Wessel) Horton. His family later moved to Cheyenne where he graduated from East High School. Gary served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war where he flew 103 missions as an intelligence gatherer. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Wyoming and completed his degree in journalism at the University of Wyoming. Gary held various reporting and editing positions in Sheridan, Worland and Cheyenne. Later he served as a technical editor for environmental projects throughout the world, including eight years spent in Egypt.
During Gary’s retirement his kindness, generosity and sense of humor were instrumental in providing foster homes for many homeless dogs who were then adopted into loving forever homes.
Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deborah (Riddle); sons, David (Macinda) and Richard; three lovely grandchildren; mother, Betty Horton and numerous loving cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Horton and his grandparents.
