A funeral service for Lois Helen Bird, 78, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Wheatland United Methodist Church in Wheatland with Pastor Keith Hudiburgh officiating. Inurnment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.
Lois Bird a resident of Wheatland passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland.
Lois was born June 16, 1935 in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Earl and Lola (Lathrop) White.
The family moved to Wheatland, where she graduated from Wheatland High School in 1953. She then married Elery Wesley Bird. Elery passed away in 1970, and she raised three young sons while getting her master’s degree in education and computer science. Lois taught elementary school in both Wheatland and Yuma, Ariz. Her passion was education and literacy. After more than 30 years of teaching, she still never missed an opportunity to sit down with a child and read a book. She loved the outdoors, genealogy, traveling and was very involved in the church.
Lois is survived by her sons, Phillip Bird, Lewis Bird and John (Lori) Bird; siblings, Jack (Donna) White, Dorothy (Denzil) Cochran and Wanda Thompson; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland.
