Posted: Wednesday, Jun 26th, 2013

Virginia F. “Ginger” Karlzen, 70, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, surrounded by her family at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Ginger was born on Jan. 14, 1943 in Lafayette, Ind., the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Anderson) Benge. She was raised in Lafayette, where she met and married her husband of 52 years, Seth L. Karlzen.

Ginger enjoyed playing her guitar, reading and bird watching, always taking note when the spring migrators would show up and then leave in the fall. She was an avid stargazer and kept us informed of the planets, constellations and when to look for meteor showers. Ginger was quite the movie buff as well. She always had a kind word for those in need and instilled her love of music into her family, welcoming her daughter’s variety of pets.

Ginger is survived by her husband Seth, her daughters Annie Larue, Ginney (George) Bare and Kara (Gunnar) Williams; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents and her sisters Betty, Norma and Glenda. A private family service will be held at a later date

Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes - Platte Chapel of Wheatland.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.gormanfh.com.
