Funeral services for Katherine Smylie Moore, 86, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Wheatland with Pastor Andy Gudahl officiating and eulogist Aaron Frude. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.
Katherine Smylie Moore passed away peacefully at her Wheatland home on Monday June 3, 2013.
Katherine was born in Sterling, Colo. on Oct. 28, 1926 to James Maxwell and Margaret (Hilderman) Smylie III.
Katherine spent her early years on the family homestead in Columbine, Colo. She attended grade school at Virginia Dale, Colo. and graduated from high school in Timnath, Colo.. Katherine then attended Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry.
After graduating college she married Merwin George Moore of Wellington, Colorado on June 18, 1947. After Merwin’s graduation from college they moved to Wyoming where they spent their life together. Katherine dedicated her life to her family and was primarily a homemaker her entire life.
Katherine is survived by her two sons, David (Janie) Moore of Laramie and Kenneth (Katie) Moore of Wheatland. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Justin(Kirsten)Moore of Cheyenne, Jason(Mandi)Moore of Laramie, Shannon(Keola)Holck of Denver, and Brian(MaryAlice)Moore of Noblesville, Ind.; nine great-grandchildren, Chase, Zander and Jacobi Holck of Denver, Tristen and Jenneth Moore of Indiana; Luke and Natalie Moore of Cheyenne, and Tayton and Talon Moore of Laramie. She is also survived by two brothers, Frank Smylie of Wellington, Colo. and Dr. Don Smylie of Douglas.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Merwin, on Aug. 18, 2004; brother Dr. Jim Smylie of Lusk; sister Jean Short of Savory, Wyoming; and infant great-granddaughter Grace Lindsey Moore of Cheyenne.
Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Moore, Jason Moore, Shannon Moore-Holck, Brian Moore, Lowell Smylie and Rodger Schroeder.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.
