A funeral service for Clarence G. Baker, 95, was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at Gorman Funeral Homes Platte Chapel in Wheatland with Pastor Larry Benjamin of Church of The Nazarene officiating. Interment was at the Wheatland Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Laramie Peak VFW Post No. 3558 and the Ora Call American Legion Post No. 10.
He died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas of natural causes.
Clarence was born Oct. 17, 1917 in Rattlesnake Butte, Colo. the son of George Clarence and Bertha (Redstrom) Baker.
He was raised and educated in Goshen Hole. He joined the United States Army during World War II. He met Delores Dee Hawkins 44 years ago and they married in 2003 in Wheatland. He sold his ranch in 1974 and moved to Torrington.
His hobbies included working on the ranch, hunting, fishing and playing cards with his friends. Clarence was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Dee of Torrington; step-son, Brad Payn of Torrington; brother, Bert Baker of Torrington; one granddaughter; three great grandchildren; two nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Willard A., on June 16, 1997, and Edgar Baker; and sisters, Margaret Pence and Edith Bamberg.
Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Baker, Brad Payn, Chuck Williams Jr., Burt Petersen, Bill Steele, Rick Teters and Wade Yeadon.
Memorials made to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family.
