Charles Russell Gray

A Celebration of Life will be held for Charles Russell Gray, 69, for family and friends on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Platte County 4-H Building in Wheatland, Wyoming.
Charlie passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 after a long fought battle with arterial pulmonary hypertension at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.
Charlie was born March 10, 1943 in San Jose, California the son of Alvin Otis and Marguerite Rosalee (Montgomery) Gray.
He was raised and educated in Cheyenne, Wyoming graduating from the Saint Mary’s High School in 1961. He then entered the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #192 apprenticeship program.
Charlie served in the Wyoming Army National Guard in Cheyenne during the Viet Nam Era.
He was married to Glenda Laycock on September 28, 1966 in Cheyenne and to this union two daughters were born.
Charlie loved welding and the people he met while working in the trade all over the country.
Charlie was forced into an early retirement because of his illness in 1998. With the help of superior medical care he was able to extend his life an extra 14 years, which enabled him to spend special time with his grandchildren and meeting his great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Cheyenne American Legion Post #6, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Moose Lodge #1636, and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #192.
Charlie was a supporter of the Wheatland American Legion Baseball program, the activities his grandchildren participated in, and was known by many as “Grandpa Charlie”.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughters, Leanne (Brooks) Shepard and
Kara O’Grady all of Wheatland; grandchildren, Tana (Todd) Howard, Taylor ( Jessica) Shepard, Tori Shepard, Kaci O’Grady, and Charlie O’Grady; great grandchildren, Tracen Howard and Tripp Howard; sisters, Yvonne (Jon) Ware of Carpenter, Wyoming and Jody (Russell) Walter of Lingle, Wyoming; brother, Van (Jan) Gray of Burns, Wyoming; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial to the Platte County Memorial Hospital Foundation, 201 Fourteenth Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank the Platte County Memorial Hospital for services and care above and beyond to Charlie by the doctors, nurses, and staff during his many visits and final days.
