Funeral services for Edith LaVerne (Hutchison) Schroeder, eighty-seven, will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Andrew "Andy" Gudahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland, Wyoming.
LaVerne Schroeder passed away at her home in Wheatland, Wyoming Sunday, October 28, 2012. She was born in Dover, Colorado on March 2, 1925, the daughter of Chester Arthur Hutchison and Thelma May (Warren) Hutchison.
Mrs. Schroeder was reared and educated in the Dover, Colorado area, graduating from Carr High School in 1944. Immediately following high school she attended nursing school in Denver, Colorado, graduating in 1947 from Saint Anthony Hospital School of Nursing. On September 5, 1947 she married Herman Dean Schroeder from Carr, Colorado in the Carr Presbyterian Church. At the time of her death, the couple had been married sixty-five years.
She worked as a Registered Nurse for Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado while her husband completed veterinary school at Colorado State University. Moving to Wheatland, Wyoming in 1950 she continued her nursing career at the Platte County Hospital. She was a member of the Platte County Hospital Board, serving as the president for several years. She was always active in her community. A member of the First Christian Church, at various times she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and led a women's Bible study, and frequently hosted visiting evangelists and missionaries. She also served on the church missions board and for twenty years as the church secretary. Over the years she was a member of the League of Women Voters; Gentle, Efficient Mothers (GEM) Club; the PTA, serving for a time as the president; the Wheatland Music Club where she cosponsored the Junior Music Club; and two bowling leagues. She enjoyed playing cards, and over the last forty-five years, she and her husband played in a pinochle club. Her hobbies included reading, writing, and painting. She was a published poet, and wrote two books "A Blessed Trinity", © 2002, and a novel "The Queen's Secret" © 2004 (under LaVerne Hutchison). Another novel, "The Long, Long Shadow" (under LaVerne Hutchison) will be released in the next few months.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. H. D. Schroeder, of Wheatland, Wyoming; four children and their spouses -- Gloria and Ed Snell of Wheatland, Wyoming; Rodger and Lindy Schroeder of Chugwater, Wyoming, Colleen and Charles Schmidt of Valley Center, Kansas, and Darlene & Doug Blaney of Carr, Colorado; two brothers, Glenn Hutchison of Carr, Colorado and Larry Hutchison of Carr, Colorado; two sisters, Jean Chadwick of Eaton, Colorado and Bonnie Hughbanks of Anthony, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Arthur and Thelma May Hutchison of Carr, Colorado; two brothers, Wayne Hutchison of Carr, Colorado and Donald Hutchison of Carr, Colorado; and one sister, Doris Morrison of Commerce City, Colorado.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons Jason Schmidt of Morrison, Colorado, Brian Snell of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jesse Snell of Casper, Wyoming, Daniel Blaney of Carr, Colorado, and grandsons- in-law Jeff Sagner of Chugwater, Wyoming and Will Crowley of Chugwater, Wyoming. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons-in-law Ross Fitch of Wichita, Kansas, John Ledingham of Wellington, Colorado, Matthew Osborn of Eureka, Kansas, Branden Phillips of Laramie, Wyoming, and Doug Wasinger of Buffalo, Wyoming.
