Billy E. Bennett

A funeral service for Billy E. Bennett, 88, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at First Christian Church in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Andy Gudahl officiating. Inurnment will be at the Wheatland Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Laramie Peak VFW Post #3558 and Ora Call American Legion Post # 10.

Billy died of natural causesThursday, November 1, 2012 in Wheatland.

He was born June 9, 1924 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska the son of Perry Oscar and Josie (Martin) Bennett.

Billy went to school in Scottsbluff County Nebraska. He served in the United States Marines during World War II, entering the service on May 8, 1944 and was stationed on Iwo Jima during its occupation. After being stationed in Japan, Billy was honorably discharged in April 1946.

He married Alvina Kautz on November 28, 1948. He farmed with his brother in Nebraska before moving to a farm east of Wheatland in January 1950, where he farmed until his death. He was a member of the Laramie Peak VFW Post #3558 and he enjoyed fishing when time would allow him to get away. He and Alvina also enjoyed being “Snowbirds” in Arizona since 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina Bennett of Wheatland; sons, Alan (Marjorie) Bennett of Wheatland and Wayne (Dena) Bennett of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren, Alan (Alena) Bennett Jr., Joel Bennett, and Lisa (Tim) Phelps all of Wheatland, and Stacy (Joshua)Worby of Eagle River; great grandchildren, Austin, Broderic, Collin, Caysha, Benjamin, Ethan, Annabelle, and Kendall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Oscar and Josie Bennett; son, Raymond Bennett; brothers, Marvin, Melvin and Thomas Bennett; and sister, Betty Phillips.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all of his many family and friends.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Post #3558 and Auxiliary, 1401 – 9th Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland.
