April 23, 1930 – January 21, 2010
Doyl Samuel Miller, Grand Junction, passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson on January 21, 2010 at Family Health West, he was 79 years old. He was born on April 23, 1930 to Eli and Opal Miller in Wheatland, Wyoming. Doyl graduated from Wheatland High School, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Casper College in Casper, Wyoming. He married Joyce Musselman on April 12, 1953 in Wheatland, Wyoming and they were married for 56 wonderful years. They have four children.
Doyl was in the United States Army and served with the Wyoming National Guard during the Korean War as Master Sergeant and Tank Commander of the 141st Tank Battalion 7th Division. During his service he received the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Doyl was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., and was a member and volunteer at the Museum of Western Colorado and various other organizations. Doyl loved the outdoors and traveling with Joyce, he especially loved reading and sharing his knowledge of History with family and friends.
Doyl is preceded in death by his parents and two daughters Roberta Miller Porter and Melinda Miller Johns. He is survived by his wife Joyce, two sons, D. Allen (Yvonne) Miller of Layton, Utah, Micheal E. Miller of Draper, Utah, 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, January 29, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, with full Military Honors.
