TORRINGTON--Several members of the Viking track team continued to claim individual medals this past weekend as they competed at the Goshen County meet held in Torrington.
Junior Treasure Hollister placed in all three of his events as he brought home gold with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:09.54), took third in the 400-meter dash (53.72) and sixth in the triple jump, clearing 39’5”.
The Vikings’ top distance runner, senior Wes Sturdivant, turned in another solid time in the 1600-meter run (4:56.46) and finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:12.01.
Junior Hunter Bye took fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.43. He also competed in the 100-meter dash (12.27) but did not place.
Junior Austin Quynn claimed seventh place in the 100-meter dash, running a 12.05. He also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking 49.53.
Jacob Barnes competed, but did not place, in the 400-meter dash (59.210, the long jump (15’2.25”) and the pole vault, clearing 10’0.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Hunter Bye, Jacob Barnes, Austin Quynn and Treasure Hollister placed second with a time of 4:43.80.
Ashley Garhart was the lone competing member of the girls’ track team for the Vikes. She clocked 15.55 in the 100-meter dash and 32.09 in the 200-meter dash but did not place.
The season begins to wind down with a qualifying meet today (May 6) at Lusk and the final meet at Torrington on Friday, May 9. Events begin at 2 p.m. at Torrington. Times for the Lusk meet were not available at press time.
The 1-A regional meet will be held at Torrington on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. Friday’s events kick off at 11 a.m. and begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
