WHS grapplers open their season at the Evanston Invite

EVANSTON – The Wheatland Bulldog High School wrestling team opened their season in Evanston, Wyo. at the 27 team Evanston Invitational.
Led by third year coach Colt Goff, the Bulldogs took 13 varsity and 11 junior varsity wrestlers to the first tournament of the year.
The event featured several hundred wrestlers including many Division I bound athletes from 17 Wyoming and 10 Utah high school teams.
Lance Lucas was the highest placing varsity wrestler for the Bulldogs. Lance fi nished third in a 28 man bracket and received 19 team points.
The junior varsity wrestlers had more success. Freshman Cody Cagle fi nished in second place at 285, Justis Borton placed third at 195 and Bailey Layton of Glendo placed fifth at 285 lbs.
The Bulldogs look to improve on last seasons record as they currently have 7 ranked wrestlers in the Wyopreps preseason poll. The Bulldogs will compete next at Cheyenne East’s Charlie Lake Invitational
