WHEATLAND - It's now a two-way tie for first in the 2A East after Wheatland sent the Glenrock Herders packing with a big 33-20 conference win last week.

Glenrock struck first with a one-yard run into the end zone with 8:14 left in the first quarter. Wheatland countered the attack with a 26-yard pass from quarterback Critter Ruwart to wide receiver Austin Huffer to knot up the score at 6-6 with 5:47 left in the first.

Wheatland started the second quarter with an 11-yard run from Ruwart to add six more to the board. With about half of the second quarter done and on fourth down, the Herders punched it in from the goal line, and after adding a two-point conversion, Glenrock led for the second time in the game.

Running back Kirby Cagle crossed the goal line with 3:07 left in the half, and after a two-point conversion from Ruwart to wide receiver Welchel, Wheatland led 20-14 going into halftime.

With 4:14 left in the third quarter, Wheatland had the only scoring drive of the quarter when Ruwart connected with Huffer again, completed a 34-yard pass for a touchdown. Going into the fourth, with 6:58 left in the game, Ruwart ran the ball in for six and wide receiver Chris Caves tacked on two more points. Glenrock struck back with a minute left in the game, completing a 21-yard pass for six. The Herders tried for an onside kick, but the ball went to the Bulldogs. Wheatland wrapped up the game with a 33-20 victory.

Wheatland had 17 first downs last week. The Bulldogs totalled 187 rushing yards from 27 attempts and 259 passing yards from 11 completions.

Cagle ran for 70 yards from 13 attempts and Ruwart rushed for 78 yards off of 14 attempts. Huffer led the receivers against Glenrock with 115 yards and five catches and Whelchel recorded 71 yards from two completions.

The Bulldogs travel to Moorcroft this week. The Wolves have yet to pick up their first win, taking their last loss to the Tongue River Eagles 12-0.

Schultz expects more players to get playtime against the struggling Moorcroft team.

The game starts at 3 p.m. in Moorcroft. The freshman and sophomore team will face the Outlaws in Rawlins on Monday. Their game begins at 4:30 p.m.
