BIG PINEY – Both days of the Sublette County High School rodeo this weekend saw stellar performances from the Wheatland High School rodeo team.
In Saturday’s events, Hunter Eller took the crown in bullriding with a score of 74. As of the end of the Rock Springs rodeo, Eller continues to battle to break the three-way tie for a spot in the top four bull riders.
In breakaway roping, Teague Crane came in ninth with a 5.15 time. Crane joined Cahill Ellenwood as the third-place team ropers during this past weekend’s rodeo at 8.84. Jhett Hadley and Trace Steele took fourth with a time of 8.97. Hadley and Steele are second in the top four team roping pairs.
During Sunday’s competition, Hadley placed third in calf roping with an 11.00 time. Teigen Finnerty took second place as a steer wrestler, clocking in at 10.03. Hadley and Steele had another great performance in team roping on Sunday, this time taking first at 5.87. Crane and Ellenwood were seventh with a time of 18.45.
The WHS rodeo team will next head the Newcastle High School Rodeo on the Weston County Fairgrounds this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s events kick off at 10 a.m. and Sunday’s begin at 9 a.m. The junior high rodeo begins on Friday at 4 p.m.
