CASPER-Despite the fact that it wasn't for a state championship, the Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings left the Events Center court Saturday with one of their most satisfying wins of the season. The Vikings took the consolation championship and the fifth-place trophy by finally defeating the Upton Bobcats 63-54, a team they had faced unsuccessfully three other times this year.

The Vikes jumped out to a 13-point lead in the first quarter and held on to start the final eight minutes ahead by 12. But the Bobcats made it exciting as they steadily gained some momentum and cut the Vikings lead to 52-48 with 4:25 to go in the game. That was as close as it would get though and the Vikes hit some key free-throws in the final two minutes to seal the win.

The Vikes were down from the get-go and Ten Sleep sent the Vikings to the loser's bracket with a 71-52 win to advance to the semi-final.

The Vikings found themselves down 31-28 but kept chipping away and by the time the final horn sounded, the game was knotted at 54.

The Vikes outscored the Eagles 11-4 in the four-minute overtime to get the win and a shot at the winner of the Upton-Lingle-Ft. Laramie game for the consolation championship.

The Vikings finish the season with a 20-7 record and will graduate seniors David Robertson, Luke Ibarra, Gage Cunningham, Brian Steiner, Bill Scherger and Cody Reyher.
