DOUGLAS – The Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings (18-6) will compete as the third seed in the east this week in state basketball, going 2-1 during 1A regional tournament play in Douglas last week.
The Vikes were first in the 1A southeast. They came away with another win over the Hulett Red Devils during the first round of regional play, 77-49.
The Upton Bobcats edged out the Vikings in the semifinals on Friday, 58-54.
The Vikings weren’t out after the Upton defeat, though. The Vikes took out the Oilers 50-43, clinching a third-place spot in the 1A East.
Guernsey-Sunrise starts state play on Thursday at the Casper Events Center. According to unofficial tournament matchups, the Vikes will square off against the Ten Sleep Pioneers (22-4 overall, 6-2 conference) at noon.
The Pioneers are second behind Burlington in the 1A Northwest standings, and they are the second seed in the 1A west division.
