Bulldog ‘C” team beats Eagles

WHEATLAND – A close game quickly turned to favor the Wheatland High School “C” boys basketball team during Saturday’s game against the Glendo Eagles.

In the only Friday-Saturday game to be played in Platte County this week, the Bulldogs came away with a victory 36-24.

The Eagles took a very early lead, scoring the first few points. The Bulldogs edged over their opponents at the end of the first quarter 13-12. Nine more unanswered points expanded the Bulldogs’ lead until the Eagles struck back with two of their own, and it was 22-14 by the end of the half.

The Eagles added four more points to their score by the end of the third quarter, but the Bulldogs put on another eight, ending the period 30-18.

Glendo is scheduled to host the Niobrara County High School (NCHS) Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, traveling to Glenrock. They will return home to host Worland on Saturday, and will hit the road once again on Tuesday, traveling to Burns.

First-place NCHS is coming off of a three-game winning streak, last beating Saratoga 64-46. They are set to take on Lingle-Fort Laramie on Friday before facing Glendo.

The Glenrock Herders are sixth behind the Torrington Trailblazers in the 3A East conference. They lost to the Blazers 52-44 last week, but on the week prior against Newcastle in a close match, 45-43.

The last-place Worland Warriors last faced Wheatland on Dec. 14, losing 64-45. The Burns Broncs currently sit at third in the 2-A Southeast conference just behind Pine Bluffs, who they will play on Saturday. Burns is seeking to recover after their 79-51 loss to Mitchell, Neb.

The Lady Bulldogs host Glenrock on Friday. The Lady Herders are seventh in the 3A East conference. They have no conference wins, while the Lady Bulldogs have one, placing them in sixth. The Lady Herders fell to the Lady Blazers of Torrington last week in a close match 56-48.

The 8-2 Bulldogs are second in the 3A conference, while the Lady Bulldogs are sixth at 3-7 overall.

The Glendo Eagles are last in the 1A Southeast conference at 0-9.
