GUERNSEY - The Gurensey-Sunrise boys basketball team came away with strong victories after the holiday break, taking down Morrill and fellow Platte County school Glendo.
The boys beat their competition by double digits in both matchups. They won against Morril 74-45 and put a wide margin between themselves and the Glendo Eagles 55-10.
The weekend’s wins add to the momentum begun before Christmas break and extends their winning streak to six.
The Vikings take on Pine Bluffs and Midwest on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Vikings struggled against the Lady Tigers this weekend, falling 55-12. It’s been a tough season for the girls team so far, and they look to break the losing streak when they, too, square off against Pine Bluffs and Midwest on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Pine Bluffs Hornets are coming off of an 0-2 weekend, falling to Kimball 56-37 and a close game against the Niobrara County Tigers 36-35.
The Lady Hornets fared just as well as the boys team, taking loses to Kimball and Lusk, 42-16 and 42-9, respectively.
The Midwest Oilers lost to Ten Sleep 36-30 during last week’s action, snapping a four-game winning streat. They came back to beat Arvada-Clearmont 56-28.
Glendo is hoping to end a winless season when they travel to Rock River this Tuesday and take on the Wheatland JV squad on Saturday in Wheatland. They return home to host Niobrara County High School on Jan. 22.
