At next week’s Board of Trustee’s meeting, the Platte County School District no. 1 will be proposing several teacher and staff reductions.
The proposed cuts would include a half-time language arts teacher, one physical education teacher, a music teacher, an art teacher, a 40 percent reduction of the elementary guidance counselor in Wheatland, one elementary school teacher in Glendo and changing the music teacher for Glendo and Chugwater from full time to a half-time position and eliminate popular Wheatland Middle School class “Bash.”
“Currently, we have a full-time staff member that serves both Glendo and Chugwater (one day in Glendo, the next in Chugwater). We are proposing to reduce that to a half-time position, as our principals feel it can still service the needs of the students. This also puts us in line with the state’s funding model, which allocates a quarter-time position for each school, which would equal a half-time position for the two schools,” Superintendent Dennis Fischer said in an email.
