CHEYENNE – Platte County wanted rain, and the weather certainly delivered during the past few days.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne received two reports in the Wheatland area of quarter-inch hail on July 25. On the same day, spotters reported flash flooding 14 miles southwest of Chugwater. The rain washed out several roads, including Iron Mountain road and roads three miles into Laramie County. The flooding stranded a railroad worker on the tracks, and Chugwater Creek breached its banks.
On Monday, trained weather spotters reported 1.75-inch hail south of Glendo and 1-inch hail north of Wheatland.
